Qualities for a Good Friend and how to Be a Good Friend?
How would you describe a good friend?
“A single soul dwelling in two bodies” Aristotle.
This statement says it all.
To find a good friend you have to be a good friend. It is a dedicated friendship in the true sense of the word. To have specific qualities for a good friendship is very important. There are ethics involved that will make your friend feel safe and secure to share her inner self with you. You have to earn a good friendship my darling.
Friendship as in all relationships needs continues effort and dedication between two or more people to be a successful partnership. Knowing when support is needed is knowledge you gain by being interested in his or her behaviour, and this will be a mutual interest in each other to make it a successful friendship.
There are certain qualities you must have to become a good friend. Having a special friend enhances your life, it gives you a sense of belonging, self-worth and purpose.
Qualities for a Good Friend
RESPECT. You acknowledge and embrace who the other person is and treat him or her accordingly. Mutual respect is one of the most important qualities to have. Always keep secrets confidential, never to be spoken about outside the friendship. Gossip or listen to gossip is a bad habit my dear, from your own opinions. Do not talk behind his or her back. Discuss it between the two of you in an open and calm way. When someone in a group talks harm full about other friends, walk away. It is disrespectful and she will not be your good friend, they will do the same to you too.
HONESTY. Among all the trends’ honesty is one of the most meaningful for good friends. Always tell the truth, be tactful and diplomatic, never cruel or abusive to hurt their feelings. Be honest when discussing clothes, hairstyles, romance and jobs opportunities. Take his or her personality in consideration when expressing an opinion not yours.
LOYALTY. Be faithful and dependable. Listen to your friend, try to put you in his or her shoes. Best friends can rely on one another for assistance in all circumstances though you might feel different, remember it is not about you. Be there to help whether it is for health, money, love, job related problems. Your friend has to know you will be there by his or her side no matter what, you are sincere and do it from your heart.
TRUSTWORTHY. This quality you have to earn my dear. You get judged by how public you go with your friendship. Keep private conversations private it has to be part of your moral principles. Never undermine your friend, be open upfront in your behaviour and always be there for each other.
ACCEPTING. Coming from different backgrounds you will diverge from each other. What is good for one is not always good for the other. Do not try to change each other to feel and see the world the same way. Embrace the differences, discuss it for better understanding. Challenge and encourage each other to tell more about your values on different issues. Be even-handed in everything.
LOW-MAINTENANCE. Do not be a demanding friend that needs attention every minute of the day. Both of you should have a full life of your own, no need to do everything together. You both have different interests and hobbies, but the secret is to re-connect after events and share the experience. Be happy, bubbly and fun to be with. Always see a bright side in everything, look carefully even every problem has a silver lining. Seek friends with the same lifestyle.
N0N-JUDGEMENTAL. See every situation from a neutral corner. Do not judge from your point of few, it might not be balanced. Listen to your friend, put you in their shoes and relate to their problem. What will be the best solution for them. Never try to convince your perspective as the only way. Make them feel confident and secure about who they are. It is the uniqueness that attracted you to each other in the first place.
To have a good relationship with your best friend boosts your happiness, reduce the stress, improves your confidence and self-worth.
In conclusion my dear best friends are attentive, available, believable, caring, easy-going, faithful, considerate, empathetic, compassionate, forgiving, loyal, humorous, good listener, generous, gentle, giving, respectful, honest and kind.
“A best friend is he, that when he wishes a person’s good wishes, it for that person’s own sake” – Aristotle
