Letter 1. What are My Expectations of Life.

My Dear Thinette

At last, I am free I can make my own choices! I can live my life the way I want to!

Where do I begin?

What are my expectations of life?

How do I want to live my life?

What makes me happy?

Yes, that’s it, and I want to be successful too.

What do I need, how am I going to achieve it?

Every young girl growing up has high expectations and many fantasies about their future, mostly about a wonderful romantic life. Dreaming of a handsome prince kidnapping her, riding off into the sunset on a white horse or is it a solar-powered sports car, with visions of living a romantic life in luxury ever after.

Let us see what will give you that happy warm feeling you want to wake up to every morning. Where would you want to be in 10 years time? Ask “What are your expectations of life” darling Thinette? Be honest, write down the feelings, take a moment and write the future story of your life, how you want it to be.

Back to reality … much more has to be done to get to that point my dear, lifestyle and habit changes might be in the air to achieve your goals!

You might want to become a professional a successful online entrepreneur or a stay at home mom but happiness stays at the core of your being.

Let us begin at the beginning and plan your creation.

• Know what you want and where you are going.

• Dedication and determination.

• Do your planning.

Overcome obstacles.

• Learn to Separate

• Basic skills.

Know where you are going.

Everything you want to achieve in life will need a plan with tons of preparation, the more detail the better and then the execution there of.

You have to work and earn money one way or the other to make a living. The best is to know where you are heading, why, and how.

The only way to get results are thinking, deciding  and planning. Start by putting yourself and your future first no matter what!

Dedication and determination will be needed in huge quantities. Discipline and hard work will be the key to get there. You will have to be very firm with yourself and follow a tight working schedule. For now the lazy days are over.

Work hard when you are young to harvest the good fruits at old age.

Girl holding a calender open at the 1st January to do her annual planing.

Thorough planning on a yearly, monthly, weekly and daily bases are necessary in reaching your goals. Keep all journals updated and keep proper records. Print it out and keep in files to keep track.

The same hard work and dedication a farmer has to go through to get meat or veggies on the table, you will have to put in to reach your goals.

There is no magic wand. It is a lengthy process before you can harvest the fruit of your labour.

Budget your time and money well, treat yourself to one night a week out with friends and enjoy it.

  • Stay calm and  overcome obstacles with logic, read a book on the subject.

  • Learn to think out the box.

  • Never complicate issues.

  • See it for what it is an not what you think it is.

  • Turn those obstacles in advantages.

Find people who are trustworthy and wise to be close to you to form your support group willing to helping you succeed.

You will need a support group of people for the rainy days my dear. Select people sincerely interested in your wellbeing, it will normally be older people in your life. You might find all the wisdom, guidance, support and sympathy in one person, but keep a balance.

Man with boxes

If you can separate different happenings and issues in life you are halfway there. Put everything that happens to you in a separate little box in your mind. Nothing has to do with each other only in the bigger picture.

If you had a flat tyre it was nobody’s fault. Fix it and move on! Learn something from it and see it as an experience needed.

Close the box and file it in the archives of your mind, don’t carry it with you the whole day. Moaning and groaning about it won’t change anything, it will only steal your joy!

You will have to armour yourself with new skills to deal with new developments in your life. Do some self study and research to gain more knowledge to become the expert in your field if interest.

A desire to grow, dedication and persistence are crucial for reaching your dreams and goals.

Follow your planning relentlessly, making those dreams and expectations come true  is of the utmost importance.

There are two sides to enrich your life, your career and your personal side. They might need different sets if expertise to develop but keep it separate.

Put each its own box,  personal life stays at home and business life stays at work. Mixing them will bring conflict of interest and divide your attention.

While on your way home after work put your career back in it’s box and close the lid, open your personal loving family box and start thinking about home.

When you get home you will feel so relaxed already. Do the same in the mornings, on your way to work leave home at home and think of the business day full of important decisions to make.

The aim of these letters are to help getting you out the maze onto the high road to success as smoothly as possible my dear.

Becoming a financially independent woman  brings the confidence you need, doing the things you want to do and the way you want to do it, and being responsible in the process. This plays a huge role in your happiness and the feelings you want to achieve.

Window with handwritten words of happiness. I LOVE MY LIFE!

Know where you are going and keep moving. Never stay at the crossroads and let all the others pass you.

In your journal:

• Decide what gives you a happy warm feeling and make a list of your expectations for your future.  Be realistic about your choices.

• Define your lifestyle and the way you want to live your precious life my dear. Write your future life story, how your life is going to be.

Firstly find what gives you the happy and content feeling and how am I going to accomplish it. What do I desire and want my life to be like? What are my expectations of life? Begin with the End in mind, and start planning to reach those goals my love.

Stop procrastinating!

Love you lots.

Gran Stella.

    1. We were all there, only want to do our own thing. If only one knows how much valuable time gets wasted.
Successful young people are the ones who took advice early on.

  5. Hi Gran Stella,

Great post and idea! Love the concept. So many young people these days are lost and have no direction. Suffering through life as they stumble their way forward. Having a meaning and purpose is so important for the young (as well as the old!)

Once they work out their meaning it becomes like a light house and guides them. Thanks for helping Thinette find her way! We all need a Gran Stella!

  6. As I read this the first of what appears as a series of letters to her granddaughter I wish this had come from my grandmother about 60 years ago. Though some of what Stella writes is directed at young ladies a huge portion is meaningful to young men.

Even now at almost 80 it si going to be interesting seeing how many points Stella presents that I can capture to apply to my own life experiences toward the goals I set for myself.

    1. Barry it is written to my granddaughter because it is all I have and really wanted to make it personal.

This is a wonderfully crafted and quite interesting read here. You succeed in depicting a powerful message that every youngster has to understand.

    1. Where I stay it is a need for the young to know these basics. If a parent does not teach them this at home where else will they get the knowledge from and sad to say most parents do not give this a second thought.
Thank you for a very motivating comment.

  8. Thank you for the article. I’m 59 and still looking for my expectations in life. LOL! But you have a clear and concise plan for people to work and plan for their future. I enjoyed reading your article.

    1. Hi Daniel
I believe very few people our age sat down and planned our future. Times were different. Now a days planning it important and necessary to survive let alone make a success.
It is never to late, one can still do some planning for the rest of our time.
      Thank you for your comment.

    1. Thank you Schalk for your comment. It will motivate me to carry on. It is the only way to get a message through to the young pepole. Letting them read it in secret!
      I appreciate it thank you!
